About Project

Caring Transitions ranked as one of the top 500 Franchises by Entrepreneur’s Franchise offers Senior Relocation, Downsizing and Estate Sale Services. Their auction website, CTonlineAuctions.com, started in 2009 and had become an integral part of their service offerings and a viable alternative to physical estate sales for their franchise offices.

The client requirement was to revamp their online auction platform with easier navigation and search options, user friendly bidding options, built in shipping estimator, listings that can easily be shared on social media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Craigslist etc.

For their sellers they wanted to maintain individual stores with increased visibility, more efficient lot creation, payment guarantee from winning bidders, better status reporting and better access to find more bidders (links to social media and other selling sites) and client leads. They also wanted to enable seller to set any item for auction using a ubiquitous mobile application.

From an administrative function they wanted to offer sales with features similar to live auctions, proxy bidding along with the ability to gather reports from individual stores and buyers.

Challenges

Making the platform customizable was a challenge to the team, and the design consulting group in interaction with client could propose and implement the best design.

The other challenges the Team faced was the implementation of the concept of proxy bidding, multi tenancy, real time notification for bidders. Working on this project the team learned various aspects of auction.

The newly created system should be quick and responsive with an average load of 2 seconds. Implementation of technologies like SolR helped in quick and parametrized search of items available for auction.

Solution

The product developed for the client consisted of an easy to use mobile app designed in android and iOS for creating listings for sellers, a web application for the Seller and Buyer and a Web portal for admin to manage the platform.

Conclusion

The Overall Product designed was highly appreciated by the client. The client’s feedback “I am also very happy that the android app now has the multiple picture taking option (vertical shots) and that there are instructions embedded on the app. That is a very nice touch indeed! ”
